As it turns out, the Bulls management team was able to meet with Boston assistant Tom Thibodeau both Wednesday night and again Thursday afternoon. The meetings took place with the blessing of Celtics coach Doc Rivers.
The meetings went well and it's possible the Bulls could make a move to hire Thibodeau in the next few days. There were several reports that New Orleans gave Thibodeau a Thursday deadline to accept its head coaching job, otherwise it would turn to Portland assistant Monty Williams.
On Thursday morning, the New York Post reported that Thibodeau turned down the New Orleans job, but the New Orleans Times-Picayune wrote that Hornets officials refuted that story. Later in the day, the Times-Picayune claimed the Hornets decided to give Thibodeau more time.
As first reported here yesterday, Gar Forman and John Paxson traveled to Los Angeles on Wednesday with the intention of meeting with Thibodeau. The Celtics defensive specialist has removed himself from consideration for the New Jersey opening, according to a league source.
