Major League Baseball can review Wednesday night’s controversial call that cost Detroit’s Armando Galarraga a perfect game all it wants, but DO NOT overturn umpire Jim Joyce’s muffed call.
I’m all for using video reviews on home runs because the umpires often are unable to get a good look.
But you have to keep the human element in play elsewhere in baseball. It’s one of the main things that makes the game so great.
Galarraga got jobbed, no doubt about it, but he is getting _ and will continue to get _ more notoriety than if he pitched the perfecto.
He’ll be remembered for the class he showed immediately after Joyce ruled Cleveland’s Jason Donald safe at first base while those around him wrere losing their minds.
And Galarraga was equally composed when Joyce came to the Tigers’ clubhouse after the game and apologized. Again, what a class act.
Take a bow, Armando Galarraga.
