Northwestern gets second hoops commit
At the rate the Wildcats are landing recruits, they'll be done with the Class of 2011 by mid-August.
Last Sunday, Northwestern picked up an oral commitment from Benet point guard David Sobolewski. Today, Northwestern received a commitment from San Antonio point guard Tre Demps.
Demps, a 6-foot-3 standout for Ronald Reagan High School, had offers from BCS schools Minnesota and Stanford as well as several mid-majors. Rivals also reports Demps had an offer from Harvard, which is another indication of his academic capabilities.
While Demps and Sobolewski play the same position for their high school and AAU teams, Northwestern's Princeton-style offense features two guards at the top, two wings and a post. Presuming both guys shoot well -- and they do -- they can co-exist nicely in the same backcourt. In the Wildcats' style, the more ballhandlers and initiators, the better.
For those who like bloodlines, Demps' father, Dell, appeared in 20 NBA games over three seasons and now serves as the Spurs' Director of Player Personnel.
