CLEVELAND _ Just finished talking with Ozzie, and he talked about, you guessed it, Manny Ramirez.
*Ozzie said Manny might not make his debut until Wednesday, but the guess here is he debuts Tuesday night.
Ramirez is scheduled to be on a red-eye flight from California tonight, with his plane landing at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning local time. If he gets enough sleep and feel up for playing tomorrow night, he’ll be in the lineup.
*Ozzie said Manny is going to bat fifth, which is where he should be hitting in my opinion.
Keep Alex Rios third, Paul Konerko fourth and put Manny ahead of Carlos Quentin.
*Manny is going to wear No. 99.
*Ozzie said he doesn’t know why so many people think Manny is going to be a huge disruption in the clubhouse.
I’m not one of them, and all of the questions about “chemistry” are getting old.
Manny has done some strange things in a long career that started right here in 1993. But come on, the guy has 554 career home runs, 1,828 RBI, a .313 batting average, .411 OBP, .589 slugging percentage and a 1.000 OPS.
He’s one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game, and he generally keeps to himself in the clubhouse.
The only thing the Sox care about is Manny staying healthy for the final 30 or so games.
*Manny didn’t ask for anything before waiving his no-trade clause, and his agent, Scott Boras, isn’t looking for any kind of contract extension.
Let’s just see how Manny does down the stretch, how he produces and how he feels playing for the Sox, and vice versa.
Who knows, maybe it’s a fit and he comes back as the DH next year.
