Dave Doeren’s first Northern Illinois squad now knows what it must do to return to the MAC title game. The Huskies released their 2011 schedule Monday and it offers two more local opportunities than last year’s five-game home slate. And for those who can’t survive November without multiple Tuesday dates with NIU, this is your dream schedule. NIU, which went 11-3 last year and won the Humanitarian Bowl, faces just three teams that played in bowls last season. The Huskies’ 12 opponents posted a collective 58-84 record. THE SCHEDULE Sat., Sept. 3: ARMY (7-6 last year; won Armed Forces Bowl) Sat., Sept. 10: at Kansas (3-9) Sat., Sept. 17: WISCONSIN at SOLDIER FIELD (11-2; lost Rose Bowl) Sat., Sept. 24: CAL POLY (7-4 in FCS) Sat., Oct. 1: at Central Michigan (3-9) Sat., Oct. 8: KENT STATE (5-7) Sat., Oct. 15: WESTERN MICHIGAN (6-6) Sat., Oct. 22: at Buffalo (2-10) Tue., Nov. 1: at Toledo on ESPN2 (8-5; lost Little Caesars Bowl) Tue., Nov. 8: at Bowling Green on ESPN2/ESPNU (2-10) Tue., Nov. 15: BALL STATE on ESPNU (4-8) Fri., Nov. 25: EASTERN MICHIGAN on ESPNU/ESPN3.com (2-10) Fri., Dec. 2: MAC title game at Detroit (ESPN2) The Western Michigan game serves as Homecoming. Times and TV outlets will be determined this summer. NIU opens spring ball on Tuesday, March 22 and holds its spring game on Saturday, April 23. LW
