After being sidelined the past few days with a stomach virus, Jake Peavy probably should have skipped his scheduled start vs. the Athletics on Saturday.
Peavy told reporters he was still having trouble keeping food down Friday, so why push it?
After all, he’s still trying to make a complete recovery from surgery to repair a detached lat muscle. But Peavy apparently convinced manager Ozzie Guillen he was good to go Saturday.
And go he did – Peavy pitched 5 2/2 innings against Oakland and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits.
The right-hander threw a spring-high 83 pitches, up from the 67 in h1s last outing. Even more encouraging was 55 of the pitches were strikes and Peavy didn’t walk a batter.
At this rate, it looks like Peavy could very well break camp with the White Sox and not miss a start. His debut would like be April 6, at Kansas City.
