The White Sox made nine roster moves before Tuesday’s Cactus League game vs. the Seattle Mariners, and it looks as if Lastings Milledge is going to make the team as the reserve outfielder.
With Dayan Viciedo out with a fractured thumb, the battle for the final OF spot came down to Milledge and Alejandro De Aza.
Along with catcher Tyler Flowers and relief pitcher Gregory Infante, De Aza was optioned to Class AAA Charlotte.
Milledge is a nonroster invitee who has thus far been on his best behavior with the Sox after bouncing between the Mets, Nationals and Pirates.
He has an impressive spring line (.326/.423/.605) and is tied with Alex Rios for the club lead in home runs (4).
De Aza was a disappointment (.244/.295/.390) in exhibition play after performing so well with the White Sox last September (.300/.323/.400).
Haven’t heard much about Viciedo, but he should be ready to go at some point in April.
Brent Lillibridge is a natural second baseman, but he can play all three outfield spots and also a chance to break camp with the Sox.
Lilibridge has not shown much (.229/.263/.371) this spring and the 8 strikeouts in 35 at-bats can’t be sitting well with Ozzie.
With the regular season just over a week away, here are the other roster moves from Tuesday:
*Outfielder Jordan Danks, infielder Dallas McPherson and pitchers Brian Bruney, Jeff Gray, Josh Kinney and Shane Lindsay and INF Dallas McPherson were reassigned to minor-league camp.
The White Sox are down to 29 players in major-league camp - 13 pitchers, three catchers, nine infielders and four outfielders.
