Cubs hold tight Saturday; Sunday games unlikely
Been waiting all day to hear from the Cubs about what they're plans are for the Astros series. Late this afternoon, a Cubs person said the team will not travel today, to Houston or anywhere else. That means it's unlikely the Cubs and Astros will play tomorrow, as teams almost never travel on day of game. The Cubs say they don't know what will happen.
The Astros have been clinging to the hope of playing at least two games in Houston by Monday, but the effects of Hurricane Ike may prevent that.
A couple days ago, I suggested the teams move the proceedings to Miller Park in Milwaukee, but the Astros wanted no part of it, even if it meant they could get all three games in and not have to worry about playing after the scheduled end of the regular season.
The Astros could have left Houston, with their families if they had wished, after Thursday's game, and flown to Milwaukee or Chicago. If the 'stros are worried about missing three gates, Miller Park may have helped them, even if Cubs fans flocked northward. The Astros could have been the "home" team, and MLB could have given them the gate receipts and even dipped into some reserves to cover the rest of it.
But we went through that the other day. It made too much sense, apparently, for the Astros and MLB.
We're waiting to hear from Cubs officials later this afternoon or this evening. I'll keep you posted.

Power is out everywhere...I went for a drive and there is NOTHING open. No stoplights were working, no gas stations were open, no restaurants, nothing. The only reason I have internet access is that we plugged our modem up to the handy-dandy generator I was smart enough to go buy four days ago.
Plus, I don't think Bush airport will open until Monday. Yet, ol' Uncle Drayton is still beating the "it's not fair to our fans if they move the venue" drum. Ah, hello....people don't have power. I don't think running off to MMP (if you can get there-roads are littered) is numero uno on their priority list.
Disclaimer: I'd do it (try to get to MMP), but I'm a Cubs fan. Going out of the way to see our team regardless of circumstances is written into our genetic code.
