The first of the Bulls' major award announcements will come Sunday afternoon at the Berto Center when Tom Thibodeau is named coach of the year. In his first season as an NBA head coach, Thibodeau led the Bulls to the NBA's best record at 62-20. That matched Paul Westphal (Phoenix, 1992-93) for the best record by a first-year coach. There have been several instances of a first-time head coach winning coach of the year, including Rick Carlisle (Detroit, 2002), Doc Rivers (Orlando, 2000) and Larry Bird (Indiana, 1998). He's the Bulls' fourth coach of the year, following Johnny "Red" Kerr ('67), Dick Motta ('71) and Phil Jackson ('96). Look for the Derrick Rose MVP news conference to happen Tuesday. Here's the vote totals. If it's tough to read, Thibodeau got 76 of 119 first-place votes (64 percent). Think Lionel Hollins would finish a little higher if the ballots were cast today? 2010-11 NBA COACH OF THE YEAR RESULTS Coach, Team 1st 2nd 3rd Pts Tom Thibodeau, Bulls 76 29 8 475 Doug Collins, Philadelphia 18 31 27 210 Gregg Popovich, San Antonio 11 31 29 177 George Karl, Denver 12 18 25 139 Nate McMillan, Portland 1 5 8 28 Lionel Hollins, Memphis -- 4 7 19 Monty Williams, New Orleans -- -- 10 10 Erik Spoelstra, Miami 1 -- 1 6 Phil Jackson, LA Lakers -- 1 -- 3 Rick Carlisle, Dallas -- -- 2 2 Doc Rivers, Boston -- -- 1 1 Frank Vogel, Indiana -- -- 1 1
