Paging Dr. Ross--stat!

I haven't watched "ER" in ages, but this is the last season of NBC's hit medical drama, and a lot of former stars are returning as guest stars this year. Noah Wyle and Anthony Edwards have already signed on, and rumors continue to build about the possibility of George Clooney returning as Dr. Doug Ross! In a recent interview, Anthony Edwards claimed that the show's producers are doing their best to get "everyone" back for the final season...and "everyone" includes George! I really, really, REALLY hope he returns to the show, and I think there's a good chance that he will. Remember when Juliana Margulies finally left the show? Everyone wondered if George would return as Doug Ross, and no one commented on it before the episode aired, so George's cameo was an awesome surprise. We HAVE to see Doug one more time! Even Anthony Edwards is coming back, and his character, Mark Greene, has been dead for years! Anything is possible on television!

This is a big week for Katie Holmes—she'll make her Broadway debut tomorrow night in a production of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons." The play also stars John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest, two very accomplished actors. How do you think they feel about working with Suri's mommy? To my knowledge, Katie has never displayed anything that remotely resembles talent. How bad do you think her reviews will be? I can't wait to find out!

The new "90210" is still in its infancy, but there's already trouble brewing behind the scenes. No, Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth haven't gotten into another catfight (at least not yet). The problem has to do with the show's super-skinny teenage stars. The latest cover of Us Weekly features pictures of the frail-looking Jessica Stroup and Shenae Grimes. Those girls make Keira Knightley and Calista Flockhart look fat! Supposedly other "90210" cast members are so concerned about the girls that they're considering staging an intervention. I hope they succeed in forcing Jessica and Shenae to at least choke down a couple of grapes. It really is sad if these young actresses truly feel the need to starve themselves, though. Tonight I watched the pilot episode of the original "Beverly Hills, 90210" on DVD (an early birthday gift from my sister-in-law: thanks, Andrea!). Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth were very slim back in the early 1990s, but they look about twice the size of the girls who are currently starring in the spinoff. What is wrong with our society? Not eating is not sexy!

Some exciting TV news to report...my favorite reality series of 2008, "Denise Richards: It's Complicated," has been renewed for a second season! The show is slated to resume filming in a few months. If you haven't seen this show, I highly recommend it: it's hilarious! Denise Richards is a complete basket case, but she actually comes across as a rather lovable mess on the show. Don't get me wrong: she's still crazy! However, I think she'd be a fun person to go out for drinks with.

"ER"

I'm very excited about what I'm assuming will be a flashback episode featuring Anthony Edwards. I'd even like to see that dastardly Dr. Romano come back somehow...maybe they can drop a second helicopter on him. Laura Innes should come back, too. Heck, bring them all back!

And I sincerely hope they give John Stamos more chances to shine. He was the most surprising presence on the show last year, growing as an actor and becoming a very likable, even endearing character.

And I'd really like to see Sam get a happy ending; Linda Cardellini must be frustrated by all the horrible things her character is made to endure.

What have I missed?

I haven't watched "ER" in ages...is Dr. Kovac still on? What happened with him and Abby? Is Carter still with Kem? I loved Thandie Newton's character on the show!

RE: What have I missed?

Well.... Kovac and Abby are on the rocks after Kovac went back to Croatia to care for his dying father. While he was there, Abby fell off the wagon and hooked up with Stanley Tucci, who played a rather spiteful attending physician who was in charge for awhile at the end of Season 13 and the beginning of Season 14. Abby went to rehab, and Sam got really mad about it. Sam, meanwhile, has been committing all sorts of indiscretions with Stamos all over the hospital. Kovac quit County General and works for a hospice facility.

As for Carter ... he hasn't been seen since Season 12, I think. He is with Thandie Newton's character, and will be returning this year in some capacity. So there are no original cast members on the show anymore.

Hmm...

...Interesting. I will probably tune in for a few episodes this year, if they bring back Doug, Mark, and Dr. Peter Benton!
