Can the East run the table?
Probably not to get a 9-9 finish in this year's round of MSL crossovers. Only Prospect in Week 2 and Buffalo Grove and Rolling Meadows last week were able to beat the West.
But there are some solid matchups all over this week. Still not sure if it will help figure out things - although Barrington certainly made a statement last week with a solid win over Prospect.
Fremd at Meadows has two perennial playoff teams and two excellent QBs in Mike Tauchman and Jimmy Garoppolo. Also a bit of a rivalry game with kids in Meadows on west side of Ill. 53 attending Fremd.
Can BG's defense led by Alan Baxter and crew slow Barrington's high-powered offense fueled by QB Cody Seeger and RB Sam Ojuri? Barrington's defense is also coming to play and made a statement last week against Prospect. Sure it will also be strange for Rich Roberts and Mike Staudt to be involved in this one from the Bronco sideline.
Conant is at Elk Grove in another rivalry game between two teams in desperate need of a win. Conant has played perennial East powers Prospect and Meadows down to the wire - they'd like to get this one going into the West.
Hoffman at Wheeling - can the Hawks rebound from their first loss and can the Wildcats bounce back from consecutive losses?
Prospect vs. Schaumburg at Conant - two prolific QBs in Knights' Miles Osei and Saxons' Anthony Iannotti. Prospect still looking for its defense to get its typical swagger, Saxons have been responding well to adversity.
Hersey at Palatine - two more talented QBs in Hersey's Steve Nelson and Palatine's Matt Rossi.
Looking forward to all of them (you'll find out more about that in Saturday's paper).
And you can hear a few highlights from some of the top games in our coverage area at 10:45 pm on WBBM 780 AM. Also, a nice interview I did with Ben Finfer will air on WMVP AM 1000's Friday night HS football show that starts at 10 p.m. (could be later if Cubs clinch the division). I also have a weekly segment around 10:30 am Fridays with Jon Cohn on The Morning Break on WSBC-AM 1240.
As you can see, I definitely have a face for radio!!!!
