Hersey's Perkowitz commits to Miami (Ohio)
Hersey shortstop Tyler Perkowitz, who will be a senior, made a verbal commitment Monday afternoon to accept a scholarship to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Perkowitz hit .301 this spring with 5 doubles, 6 triples and 12 RBI. He drew 23 walks for a .432 on-base percentage, struck out only 9 times in 113 at-bats and was 20-for-23 in stolen bases.
Perkowitz also received a scholarship offer from Valparaiso and had interest from Davidson but said "I pretty much knew once I got on campus, I liked the feel and it was the place I wanted to go." Perkowitz, who scored 29 on the ACT and has a 4.87 GPA on a 5.0 scale, was also impressed with Miami's business-school facilities. "Not only did it fit school-wise but baseball-wise as well."
