Harris explorse bid for Congress
We've waited to hear about a possible Republican candidate in the new Democratic leaning 8th Congressional district. (As you know, Dems Tammy Duckworth and Raja Krishnamoorthi are both charging hard, already, for a primary bid).
State Rep. David Harris, of Arlington Heights, announced today that he's "testing the waters" about a possible GOP bid.
From the release:
“I believe it is clear that our citizens want a government that works,” said Harris. “A government that lives within its means, provides needed services, and is responsive to the people. My service in the Illinois General Assembly has been guided by those principles, and I would carry those on to Congress if became a candidate and then won the election.”
“The Democrats in Illinois drew new Congressional districts in a closed-door and secretive process,” Harris added. “I believe those districts are unfair and not balanced. The map has been challenged in court, and I hope that the court accepts the challenge and overturns the map. However, if the map is upheld, I would consider being a candidate for Congress from the 8th Congressional District.”
The proposed 8th Congressional District is centered, roughly in Schaumburg, and contains parts of Elk Grove Village, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Arlington Heights.
Expect to see Harris ramp up fundraising efforts soon.
