BREAKING: Darlene Ruscitti bows out of 8th District GOP primary
This just in. DuPage Superintendent of Education Darlene Ruscitti, expected to be a tough GOP primary challenger for Joe Walsh in the 8th District, has backed out of the race.
From her statement:
Statement from DuPage Superintendent of Schools Dr. Darlene Ruscitti:
"Today, after careful consideration with family, supporters and friends, I have decided not to run for Congress in the 8th Congressional District.
My campaign collected over 4,000 petition signatures, signed up hundreds of volunteers and gained the support of dozens of elected officials - but my role as a leader within the Illinois Republican Party and a desire to avoid a costly primary outweigh my personal political aspirations.
Service to this great state and nation is the reason I decided to run for Congress and that passion for public service will continue to guide me as an educator and civic leader in the years to come.
Thank you to the many volunteers for their encouragement and who worked so hard on my behalf and to my family for their dedication and loving support.
Dr. Darlene J. Ruscitti is the Regional Superintendent of Schools for DuPage County and began her 3rd term on July 1, 2011. She has earned her doctorate of education from Loyola University and currently Vice President of the Illinois Association of County Superintendents. Her civic responsibilities include: Chairwoman of the Bloomingdale Township Republican Party, Vice President of Campaigns for the DuPage GOP and Co-chair of the Illinois Republican Women’s Roundtable."
