Johnson, a left-hand hitting first baseman, will be waiting in the wings at Class AAA Charlotte if first baseman Paul Konerko or designated hitter Adam Dunn go down with injury. Johnson played for Tampa Bay Rays in 2011 and was sidelined with a wrist injury for most of the season. Johnson hit only 2 home runs, but both were clutch shots. The most memorable homer came against the Yankees in the final game of the season and helped Tampa Bay slip into the playoffs. Johnson’s best season came in 2007, when he hit 16 home runs for Oakland.
