Getting ready
Our resident watchdog, Jake Griffin, checked in with this report from Mitt Romney's election night party spot:
The Secret Service is moments away from performing its perfunctory security sweep of the ballroom at the Schaumburg Convention Center where GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney is holding his election night event.
Five sets of risers form a semi-circle around a podium where Romney and other Republican dignitaries will address the candidate's faithful followers tonight. A small corral of open space lies in front of the podium and risers where late-arriving spectators will hear the night's proceedings.
The campaign is using about half of the ballroom's total space. The Fox News Channel has been playing continuously on large screens since reporters and camera crews were allowed into the venue at 1 p.m.
Of the two dozen reporters who have already checked in, CNN's Candy Crowley is far and away the most famous face to appear in the ballroom so far.
