Slots at Arlington gets labor backing
A handful of labor unions plan to publicly back slot machines at Arlington Park tomorrow.
The news conference has been arranged by the Illinois Revenue and Jobs Alliance, a group that includes Arlington Park that has sprung up to push for a gambling expansion plan that includes slots at the track.
They released a study earlier this year trying to support the idea.
Gov. Pat Quinn continues to oppose slots at tracks, though. A compromise has been tough to find, and lawmakers have had their hands full with a daunting annual budget.
So despite lawmakers' approval of gambling expansion last year for the first time, all has been quiet on that front so far this year.
