While the two conference finals series have taken surprising turns, an interesting story has developed in Orlando.
According to si.com, the Magic are considering a proposal to bring on former Bulls and Lakers coach Phil Jackson in head of basketball operations role.
The full plan, according to the story, would allow Jackson to spend most of his time in Los Angeles. Several Jackson associates could be involved, including ex-Lakers assistant Brian Shaw as head coach, Bulls ambassador Scottie Pippen as lead assistant, and Sam Vincent in a front-office role.
The Magic is in a tough spot, with unhappy superstar Dwight Howard locked in for one more season and recovering from back surgery. Most observers expect Howard to be traded this summer, unless someone like Jackson convinces the all-star center to commit long term.
Whether Magic ownership is on board with this plan and whether the Bulls would hire Toni Kukoc to replace Pippen as team ambassador – those are questions that need to be resolved.
