Nekritz' take on Bost's rant over the rules:
You've read before of state Rep. Elaine Nekritz's 2009 vote against the House rules that dictated how the chamber would conduct its work - rules that offer powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan certain advantages in controlling action at the state Capitol.
Nekritz did so quietly, but calls the move a defining moment in her legislative career thus far.
In light of Murphysboro Republican Mike Bost's now infamous rant against House rules in late May, we asked Nekritz, a Northbrook Democrat, what she thought about the outburst.
"Total power in one person's hands! NOT the American way!" Bost screamed, throwing a stack of papers during a discussion on a new pension reform proposal that had just emerged from committee and complaining about being given no time to digest last-minute changes.
"I've got to figure out how to vote for my people! You should be ashamed of yourselves! I'm sick of it!" Bost screamed.
Nekritz, who was present during Bost's tirade, said she thought the "insinuation they (Republicans) had been excluded from the process had been inappropriate."
"To me it was as much about theatrics as it was about anything else," she said. "To me, it's not, it doesn't move the process forward to inflame rather to inform. And so I just was, I get infuriated when things go on, but I don't speak into the microphone and start screaming and yelling."
