Illinois GOP fundraises with Chick-fil-A
Donate to the Illinois GOP, get a Chick-fil-A gift card.
As restaurant chain Chick-fil-A is under fire for comments its president, Dan Cathy, made against gay marriage, the Illinois GOP is using the controversy as a fundraising tool, giving restaurant giftcards to party donors.
For any $10 or more donation, the Illinois Republican Party will give contributors a $5 gift card to the chain - which some Chicago Democrats are seeking to block the local expansion of.
"Whatever your opinion is on the issue itself, it's a dangerous precedent for the government to deny a business license to a company simply for taking a political stance that a politician disagrees with," party chair Pat Brady, of St. Charles, said in a news release Monday.
"Let's show Barack Obama, Mike Madigan and their fellow Chicago Democrats that even in Illinois, we will not stand for business owners being silenced for expressing their opinion."
