Liberal speed dating event in Niles:

This may be a first.

Suburban native and Stevenson High School alum Stuart Chaseman called this morning to tell us about an upcoming "liberal speed dating event" he's organizing for singles in Niles Sept. 21.

He and a buddy of his, he explains, are both "actively seeking females" and have found themselves talking recently about the importance of political compatibility (yes, political consultants' James Carville and Mary Matalin's 'opposites attract' relationship did come up in our conversation).

"They have speed dating for tall people, so we thought, why not liberals?" Chaseman cracked.

The Date Liberal event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Capone's Hideout - 6873 N. Milwaukee Ave. The cost is $40 dollars which includes a drink, hors d'oeuvres, and music.

Participants go on a series of five minute dates while marking a confidential scorecard indicating their interest in seeing someone once again. If both parties are interested in one another then contact information is provided to the speed daters.
