Phone banking during convention downtime
Greetings from the GOP convention!
Following this morning's delegation breakfast and talks at the Sheraton Sand Key resort in Clearwater Beach, Illinois delegates and attendees have an unexpected "free day" as Monday's convention session was largely cancelled due to tropical storm Isaac.
Kenilworth Rep. Bob Dold's family - his father Robert, mother Judy and sister Katherine, all say they're using the time to make fundraising phone calls for the 10th District congressman's re-election campaign against Democrat Brad Schneider of Deerfield. (The family resemblance is unbelievable). Dold arrives Tuesday, and is scheduled to give a talk to the Illinois delegation Thursday morning.
Other delegates say they're spending time catching up on work, and some have chuckled they'll start drinking early. Rainy here, but nothing too treacherous. Illinois GOP Chair Pat Brady jokes he could "ride his bike" in this weather. That, we'd like to see.
