A new gambling plan?
State Sen. Terry Link was cagey speaking to lawmakers today, suggesting he and other gambling expansion supporters are trying to work out a new, compromise gambling plan soon.
Are there any details of what a new proposal might look like, other senators wondered in a Senate committee room?
"Right now, no," Link said.
Asked if he's trying to resurrect a gambling expansion plan with some legislation he presented before a committee, Link said: "I hope so."
A plan approved by lawmakers this year would have allowed Arlington Park to have 1,200 slot machines and created new casinos in Lake County, Chicago and elsewhere. But Gov. Pat Quinn vetoed it.
Link has said before he wants to find a compromise with Quinn before trying to override the governor's veto. It's unclear if he can find enough support among lawmakers for either plan.
