New Kirk video recaps year, milestones
In some ways, it doesn't seem like it's been a year since we were racing on the Kennedy to get to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, following news of U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk's stroke.
In others, when you think collectively of all the milestones in the Highland Park Republican's recovery process, it feels like a lifetime.
Kirk's staff recaps the year in a nicely done video, which includes story and video clips from Kirk's participation in the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's walking trial, well wishes from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the passage of Iran sanctions legislation and of course, last week's climb up the U.S. Capitol steps. Our exclusive interview with him is also briefly featured.
Throughout the video, Kirk is shown in his Senate office reflecting on his recovery process.
He says he's "thrilled to be back representing the people of Illinois."
He also has a message for Illinois residents who have "gone through the sadness" of a stroke.
"Get up and get off that bed," Kirk says.
"If you or a family member survives a stroke, my advice to you is to never, ever give up. You will recover."
