Only one Rose update means much

After Tuesday's practice, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau mentioned that Derrick Rose has started taking planned contact as part of his rehab. Sounds like he's getting hit with a practice dummy while going in for a layup. It's pretty minor news, just another small step as Rose inches closer to a return. The news we're waiting for is that he's cleared for full practice, which would mean all-out scrimmaging with his teammates. Once that happens, he's probably two or three weeks from returning to game action, though everything is just a guess at this point. New York's Iman Shumpert returned to full practice on Tuesday and participated in 3-on-3 drills, according to espn.com. Shumpert tore his ACL on the same day as Rose, April 28. Minnesota guard Ricky Rubio, meanwhile, might have come back too soon from a torn ACL and MCL. He played on Dec. 15, roughly nine months and one week after his injury occurred. Since then, he's playing in just 6 of 11 games, has had back problems and is limited to 20 minutes or less when he does play.
