After Tuesday's practice, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau mentioned that Derrick Rose has started taking planned contact as part of his rehab. Sounds like he's getting hit with a practice dummy while going in for a layup.
It's pretty minor news, just another small step as Rose inches closer to a return.
The news we're waiting for is that he's cleared for full practice, which would mean all-out scrimmaging with his teammates. Once that happens, he's probably two or three weeks from returning to game action, though everything is just a guess at this point.
New York's Iman Shumpert returned to full practice on Tuesday and participated in 3-on-3 drills, according to espn.com. Shumpert tore his ACL on the same day as Rose, April 28.
Minnesota guard Ricky Rubio, meanwhile, might have come back too soon from a torn ACL and MCL. He played on Dec. 15, roughly nine months and one week after his injury occurred. Since then, he's playing in just 6 of 11 games, has had back problems and is limited to 20 minutes or less when he does play.
