NIU victim's mom at Durbin's gun violence hearing
The Carpentersville mother of a Northern Illinois University shooting victim was present Tuesday at a gun violence hearing chaired by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.
Mary Kay Mace, the mother of Ryanne Mace, joined nearly 100 other family members of gun violence victims at the hearing, including the family of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, the Chicago teen killed on Jan. 29 and buried Saturday.
The five year anniversary of NIU's Cole Hall shooting, where five students were killed, is on Thursday. We were just cub reporters back then and Kerry remembers working on Ryanne's life story.

Hadiya Pendleton's mother will also be 10th District Rep. Brad Schneider's guest at the State of the Union address at 8 p.m. tonight. If you can't watch, we'll be live tweeting.
