Simon not to seek re-election
At a news conference in Chicago Wednesday, lieutenant governor Sheila Simon announced she will not be seeking re-election as lieutenant governor.
From a news release:
“Serving as Lieutenant Governor has given me an opportunity to advocate on important issues that affect our state but it is time for me to do even more,” Simon said. “I want to serve the people of Illinois in a role where I can have an even greater impact.
She continues, with a hint of another future run for office.
“My career has been dedicated to advocating for the people of Illinois. I look forward to continuing that service,” Simon said.
What Simon ISN'T saying is exactly what she's planning on doing. Rumors are swirling that she's mulling a bid for Attorney General or Comptroller, depending on the moves of current Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
Stay tuned.
