Bickell may be earning new contract
DETROIT - Bryan Bickell will be an unrestricted free agent after the season, but the big left winger might be earning himself a new contract with strong play in the playoffs.
Bickell took 4 goals into Game 6 here on Monday and has been a physical force for the Blackhawks.
"He's been effective," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "You look back over the last couple playoff years and Bick usually finds a way to make an impact in games. We notice him because he gets in on the forecheck and he gets a big hit or two early in games to set the tone.
"His production is kind of a bonus for us. You like his speed and all year long Bick has had a nice year for us and been consistent with his game and that line has been consistent for us. Everybody is looking for those type of players and they usually jump out at you come playoff time."
Meanwhile, the Red Wings were confident at Monday's morning skate that they will close out the Hawks.
"They came out a lot harder than we did and were better throughout the whole game," Detroit defenseman Jonathan Ericsson said. "We know we can play a lot better and we’ve showed that. The last game we didn’t come out at that level and they didn’t let us come up to that level, but we’ll show them tonight."
