Who's got the cash to win?
Federal campaign disclosure reports are trickling in today from congressional races across the suburbs.
Keep your eye on Animal Farm for the latest, but here is what we know now: Mark Kirk is walloping Dan Seals in fundraising and Steve Greenberg has no cash to put up a last minute challenge to Melissa Bean.
In the fierce 10th District race, U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk has proved to be one of the most prolific congressional fundraisers in the nation.
He has out raised Seals by nearly 2-1.
Now it looks like Seals, a Wilmette Democrat has a bit of a cash squeeze for such a tight contest. He reports having had $240,479 on hand on Sept. 30. He raised slightly more than $700,000 in the last three months.
Kirk’s reports having more than $1.8 million on hand after raising more than $850,000 in the last three months.
In all, Seals has raised $2.6 million in his rematch against Kirk, a Highland Park Republican, who has raised more than $4.6 million.
In the 8th District race, Steve Greenberg had only $45,273 in his campaign account a month out from the election while Melissa Bean had more than $1 million.
Bean raised more than $300,000 in the last three months while Greenberg, who promised a well-funded campaign against the Barrington Democrat, raised half that.
U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky faces a nominal challenge this election season, but she reported having nearly a half million dollars on hand at the beginning of the month.
Her opponent hasn’t filed his report yet.
