Truax gets DuPage boost
U.S. Senate hopeful Doug Truax, a Downers Grove Republican, will get some fundraising help from former U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert, a Hinsdale Republican who lost in 2012.
Biggert will host the event at her home Jan. 22.
Truax is running in a one-on-one primary race against state Sen. Jim Oberweis of Sugar Grove for the seat now held by Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.
Last week, Truax stopped by the Springfield press room on a meeting swing through town. Asked about the differences between he and Oberweis, Truax said, first, "we're both pretty conservative."
He said he's trying to emphasize his military background and experience consulting with businesses about their health care costs at a time when that issue is at the forefront of the political debate.
Oberweis' campaign has been largely quiet since an opening video explaining his repeat run, but he's told us he'll be pointing to his new-found experience in the Illinois Senate last year to show people he's earned some legislating credentials. He ran for U.S. Senate in 2002 and 2004, finishing second in the primary both times.
