Why not the red jerseys?

Why not the red jerseys?

I don't get it. OK, I do. It's about money and selling new jerseys, but I sure wish the Hawks were going to be wearing their red jerseys on New Year's Day at Wrigley Field and not those throwback black sweaters they unveiled Saturday night.
Didn't The Hockey News just name the Hawks' jersey the best in the NHL? Don't some consider it the best jersey in all of pro sports?
It would look terrific to have the Hawks in those great red jerseys at Wrigley Field when the entire hockey world watches them play the Red Wings.
Maybe it's just me who cares that much, but do the Yankees ever wear anything but their pinstripes at home?
P.S. Those third jerseys the Hawks wore a few years ago, the black ones with the traditional look, are back as well. They plan to wear them a minimum of 11 times this season.

At Wrigley..

My opinion on the Jersey's is very complicated...

I have stayed up late at night thinking about this one and finnallly, finnally come up with the proper attire..

They should wear the complete Cubs uniform......including the batting helmets.

Long sox with the white sturrips.

And if any pucks go into the stands hit out by Detroit.... Throw the dam thing back..

Remember, Jan 1 in Chicago could be rainny and 50 degrees. Maybe we will have the first hockey game ever called off because of rain.

home jerseys should switch

The home fans should get the opportunity to see all the different coloured jerseys in the NHL. BUT no, they have the visitors wearing white & home team in their coloured jersey. So the home fans always see HAWKS red & visitors white. This could be the dumbest idea the NHL ever had !

go Hawks go

Kleedaddy said "If they want a third, why not come up with something from scratch to sell?" - How about an orange one Klee? Ahhhhhh- I'm just kidding. I'm actually one of the few that don't mind the Bears orange alternate- as long as they keep winning when they wear them.
I don't remember the switch at half season years, but it's an interesting idea. The more I think about this subject, the more I like the Hawks wearing their whites at home so we can see the other teams colors.

Yes- Red at Wrigley

Why did they switch to dark at home and light on the road?

I grew up with the Hawks since the late 70's and it was always white at home. My dad mentioned that the NHL used to do go half the season with light at home and dark on the road...then switch.

I kinda miss the home whites and I like the half season idea.

As for the third jersey...it's ok, but I am with Sassone here. It's a newer version of the retro they have been doing. If they want a third, why not come up with something from scratch to sell?

Red at Wrigley...

WGN and Jerseys

If you go to WGN's website, it states that the Blackhawks games will be shown in Chicago only. That is a shame.
As for the jerseys, I disliked the black version the first time I saw it in a game. It's fine for practice, but the Hawks should stick to red at home and white on the road imho. As I recall, that’s how it was until the early seventies. The NHL decided to have the visiting team wear their home jersey’s on the road because it would allow the fans to see the more colorful jerseys of all the teams instead of just their own. It does kind of make sence. I’m still conditioned to seeing the Hawks in their white jerseys in person.

Jerseys and WGN

Since you brought up the sweaters, I will take the liberty to speak out again. I actually like the white sweaters better than the red, but I know they used to wear red at home. In any case, I agree that they shouldn't be wearing the throwbacks.

I realize this is probably a money issue too, but when are they going to get rid of the stupid baseball hem?! The Hawks look silly with their tails like that. I hate watching. The Rangers have modified theirs a little, so it doesn't look too bad. Overall, a great big thumbs down on the Reebok jerseys. The Bruins are good (w/ a normal hem needed though), and so are the Capitals. But there are so many bad ones, Edmonton's being the worst in my view. Is it just me on the jerseys? I can't believe there aren't more fans speaking out. At least don't buy them, maybe they'll change back.

As for WGN, my understanding is that the superstation will not be showing Hawks games.

WGN

fwiw, I am in Canada & subscribe to NHL Center Ice & naturally they showed the Hawks/Wings game last night, using the Detroit feed.

I also get WGN as part of my satellite package and also got the Hawks/Wings game on WGN with Pat/Eddie, so I figured that since WGN was a "superstation" available on most cable/satellite networks in the US, anyone could see the hawks games broadcast there, just like Cubs games. Are there two WGNs? local & "superstation"? if so, I must be getting the "local" one up here in Canada...

if you go back long enough, the red jerseys were the "home" jerseys before the nhl switched to whites for home for all teams back in the 70s iirc. wait another 10 or 15 years, and they'll probably switch back...

Superstation

Are the Hawks games are being shown across the country on WGN? Can anyone outside of Chicago confirm or deny this? Wiz?

I agree, fwiw.

The traditional, now "home" red jerseys frankly look better than the throw back ones, and imo would sell better as a result, particularly to non-hockey fans who are more likely to be tuning in on New Year's Day.

And with telecasts returning to WGN (i.e. superstation), and the Hawks returning to respectability on the ice, I also expect that Hawk fans across the US who lost interest in the team over the past decade are returning to their team and represent a pretty large target market as well, for those very recognizable red jerseys.

You would also think that being featured in a classic Xmas movie like Christmas Vacation that gets heavy play that time of year, they would try to promote the red jerseys...but i'm sure their focus group studies must have shown that they could sell more of the throw back ones...though I wonder if they included the national market in their studies.

The Hawks are not on the

The Hawks are not on the Superstation, only WGN in the Chicago market.

As for the 3rd jerseys the NHL had told the team to wear them more. The player themselves think they are unimaginative and don't like them.
