Hockey fans lose with Sayers' departure

Anyone can cover hockey, but few reporters in television, print or radio have a deep understanding of the sport. Kerry Sayers does, which makes her exit from Comcast SportsNet hard to understand at a time when the Hawks are such a big story around town.
Sayers' contract expired and Comcast decided not to renew it. The last game she covered for the station on Friday's overtime loss to the Blues.
I'll be the first to admit I don't understand the business of TV, where ratings rule and apparently there is a big difference between anchoring and reporting. What I do know is Sayers was good at what she did and had passion and a great knowledge of hockey and the inner workings of the Hawks.
Hawks fans are the losers here with a good hockey reporter out of work. The next thing you know Comcast will be giving Josh Mora the pink slip.

She was really good and was

She was really good and was very professional. You don't get a ton of that at comcast. To be honest she was great especially when you match her against even national female broadcasters. She will hopefully get her just due and be picked up by a larger media entity.

Budget cuts

Kerry was probably non-renewed with all the new pre-game and post game expenses that Comcast has had to absorb by televising all the home games. True they are making more revenue but I suspect the margins are not great. Next year, if they continue to sell out, you will see advertising rates increase.

Help Cecil Help

What a shame. Kerry is a pro. She is very good at what she does. And, I mean this in a respectful way, she is easy on the eyes. Hey channel 5, are you paying attention?
